oncut KeyLang

Smart Keyboard Language Monitor

Fix your layout before it betrays you. KeyLang watches your keyboard and warns you the moment you type on the wrong layout, then switches it with a single click. It runs quietly in the system tray, and everything stays on your device.

wrong-layout warning
you typed ηελλο
did you mean hello
GR active switch to EN

One recognised word is enough to trigger the warning.

features

Everything it does, and nothing you don't want

Early wrong-layout warning

Reliable, early alert based on bundled word lists. Greek, Russian and Hebrew, each paired with English, in both directions.

One-click switch

When a warning appears, one click on the pop-up switches the keyboard layout for you. Correct typing never warns.

Your own alert sounds

Six sound samples that play even when Windows notification sounds are off, with volume control and a system-sound option.

Dark, light or system theme

A small settings dialog opened from the tray, styled to match your desktop.

Quiet by design

Runs in the system tray with no window of its own. Optional start with Windows, and a single-instance guard.

Stays on your device

Everything runs locally, in memory, in real time. KeyLang makes no automatic network connections and never transmits what you type.

how it works

It reads both layouts at once

Because the Greek and US layouts share the same physical keys, KeyLang transliterates each character to what the same key would produce on the other layout, then checks both readings against bundled word lists. Type hello with the Greek layout on and it comes out as ηελλο; transliterated back to US keys that is hello, a real English word, so you meant English.

One recognised word is enough, so the warning appears after a single word, in both directions. The same approach works for Russian and Hebrew, whose standard layouts share the US physical keys the same way. Correct typing never warns, and detection resets when you switch windows.

For the informational "current language" readout, KeyLang embeds Facebook's fastText language model inside the executable, so there is no Python dependency and no external model file to ship.
