oncut License Manager

The License Manager is the small app that holds the licenses of your oncut apps on this computer. It comes with every oncut app that needs a license and is installed once, whichever app brought it. You find it in the Start menu under oncut.

It is also the only oncut program that goes online for licensing. The apps themselves never do: they read the license and its activation from this computer and check them offline.

Adding your license

Your license email has a license key and a license file (.lic). Any one of these works:

• drag the license file onto the License Manager window;
• right-click the license file and choose Open with, oncut License Manager;
• click Add license key, then paste the key from the email or click Open file and choose the license file.

The key goes to the app it belongs to, and the License Manager activates it on this computer at once. This needs an internet connection the first time.

Activation and renewal

An activation lasts 14 days. The License Manager renews it by itself, every day the computer is online and at sign-in, so you do not have to do anything. If the computer stays offline, the app keeps working until the activation runs out; the License Manager warns 3 days before. Going online again renews it.

To renew at once, select the app and click Activate / renew.

What the states mean

• active: the app runs on this computer; the details say for how many more days.
• renew soon: the activation runs out in 3 days or fewer. Connect to the internet, or for a computer that is never online, renew it through support (see below).
• active offline: activated through support (see below). The details say how many days are left: "renew within N days".
• not activated: the key is here but this computer is not activated yet. Click Activate / renew.
• run out: the activation ran out. Connect and click Activate / renew.
• activate again: the activation is not valid on this computer, for example after a clock change. Click Activate / renew.
• key refused: the key is not for this app, has expired, or was not copied whole. The details say which.
• trial: no license yet, and the app runs as a trial. The details say Trial - N days left., or, from the fourth day without a connection, Trial - connect this computer to the internet to continue it.
• no key: no license has been added for this app yet.

Trying an app

An app you have not bought yet runs as a trial, once per computer. It starts without a connection, and the License Manager registers it with oncut's activation server the first time the computer is online. The first 3 days need no connection; after that the trial goes on only once this computer has been online, and the details say Trial - connect this computer to the internet to continue it. The days without a connection count toward the trial.

A computer that is never online gets no trial. Try the app on a computer with an internet connection.

Moving a license to another computer

A license runs on as many computers at the same time as it was bought for, usually one. To move it, select the app on the old computer and click Deactivate. Its place is free at once, and you add the same license on the new computer.

If the old computer is gone, its place frees itself when its activation runs out, within 14 days. If you cannot wait, write to us. A license can free a place that is still active twice in 30 days.

A computer that is never online

A computer that never goes online is activated through support:

1. On that computer: add the license key, then Offline, Save an activation request.
2. Email the request file to support@oncut.gr, from the address you bought with, or name that address in the message.
3. We email you back an answer file.
4. On the same computer: Offline, Load the answer.

Each computer needs a request of its own. An offline activation takes one of the license's places for 365 days and keeps it until it ends: it cannot be deactivated, so the place is not free before then. A license for N computers activates up to N, online and offline together, so for more offline computers you need a license with more places.

The License Manager shows how many days the activation has left ("renew within N days"), and renew soon in the last 3. To renew, do the same again: save a new request and email it to us.

The machine ID

Each app sees this computer through its own machine ID, a short code made from the computer's own identifier with a one-way hash. It does not reveal anything about the computer and cannot be turned back into it. Copy machine ID puts it on the clipboard if support asks for it.

What it sends, and to whom

When it activates, renews or deactivates, the License Manager sends the license key, the machine ID and whether the computer runs Windows, macOS or Linux to oncut's activation server. For a trial it sends the app, the machine ID, that system, and the day the trial started. Nothing else: no name, no email address, nothing about what you do in the app. The details, and how long the server keeps what it receives, are in the privacy policy.

Uninstalling

Uninstalling an app takes it out of the License Manager and keeps its license, so a reinstall does not ask for the key again. The License Manager itself stays for your other apps; remove it in Settings, Apps, if you no longer use any oncut app.
